If you&#8217;re one of such musicians, read on.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attention<\/strong>: If you&#8217;ve not heard about the leading note chord, or you&#8217;ve heard about it and would want to know more, the next segment is for you.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s get started!<\/p>\n<h2><em>&#8220;What Are Leading Note Chords?&#8221;<\/em><\/h2>\n<p>The term <em>leading note <\/em>is used by music scholars to describe a note that is a half-step below a given note.<\/p>\n<p>In the major key, due to the fact that the seventh degree of the scale is a half-step below the first (or eighth) degree, the seventh degree is also known as the <em>leading note.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A chord that is formed a half-step below the first tone of the scale (which is usually the seventh tone) is a leading note chord.<\/p>\n<p>In the key of C major:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hearandplaymusic.com\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,C,D,E,F,G,A,B,C,&amp;color=CCCC33&amp;size=2\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;the tonic triad is the C major triad:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hearandplaymusic.com\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,C,E,G,,&amp;color=CCCC33&amp;size=2\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;while the leading note triad is the B diminished triad:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hearandplaymusic.com\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,B,D,F,&amp;color=CCCC33&amp;size=2\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\nA half-step below the tonic triad (the C major triad):<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hearandplaymusic.com\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,C,E,G,,&amp;color=CCCC33&amp;size=2\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;is the leading note triad (the B diminished triad):<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hearandplaymusic.com\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=B,D,F,,&amp;color=CCCC33&amp;size=2\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\nFrom the relationship between the leading note triad and the tonic triad, we can deduce that a leading note triad is a half-step below the tonic triad.<\/p>\n<p>So, we can say that leading note chords are a half step below any given tonic chord.<\/p>\n<h3>A Short Note On The Quality Of Leading Note Chords<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>In the key of C major:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hearandplaymusic.com\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,C,D,E,F,G,A,B,C,&amp;color=CCCC33&amp;size=2\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;where the leading note is B:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hearandplaymusic.com\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,B,,&amp;color=CCCC33&amp;size=2\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;B, D, and F:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hearandplaymusic.com\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,B,D,F,&amp;color=CCCC33&amp;size=2\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;are the notes of the leading note chord, which is the B diminished triad.<\/p>\n<p>So, the quality of leading note chords is <em>diminished. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>As opposed to the major and minor chords in other scale degrees, diminished chords are unstable chords, having the tendency to move to stable chords when played.<\/p>\n<p>Did I mention that the leading note chord consists of the tritone (an augmented fourth or diminished fifth interval?<\/p>\n<p>In the B diminished triad:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hearandplaymusic.com\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,B,D,F,&amp;color=CCCC33&amp;size=2\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;which is the leading note triad in the key of C major:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hearandplaymusic.com\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,C,D,E,F,G,A,B,C,&amp;color=CCCC33&amp;size=2\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;the interval between B and F:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hearandplaymusic.com\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,B,F,&amp;color=CCCC33&amp;size=2\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;is a diminished fifth interval (aka &#8211;
